LASER stands for "light amplification by stimulated emission of radiation" It is a artificially created light beam for special purpose use. All laser beams are a single color and thought of as emitting light with a narrow wavelength spectrum-"monochromatic" light.
Laser can be generated in different wave lengths - ultra violet, infrared and even visible range and name reveals how they have been generated like solid-state lasers, gas lasers, semiconductor lasers and excimer lasers etc.
Lasik surgery uses ultraviolet beams called "excimer" lasers

Fundementelly Different Laser Eye Surgeries
There are two fundamentally different Laser eye surgery - PRK and LASIK. These two catagory has more modification or subcategories under themselves.
PRK stands for Photorefractive Keratectomy and Lasik is for Laser-Assisted in-situ Keratomileusis.
PRK involves a surface ablation technique to remove the cornea's outermost layer - epithelium, and an excimer laser reshapes tissues located on the underlying of the cornea. Afterwards the epithelium layer must grow back. PRK is an option for those with thin corneas where the creation of a cornea flap by cutting is undesirable.
LASIK uses a microkeratome metal blade to cut a cornea flap and an excimer laser to reshape the eye. After the procedure, the flap is returned to its position. This is painless for most patients, and unlike PRK techniques, vision is immediately corrected, though some blurriness may be present for the first 24 hours and vision improves within few weeks.

How we see?
Our eye is just like a traditional camera that directs light into a film. Besides other parts main two part of our eye are lens and retina. When light, reflected from an object, passes through lens, bends to (converge) a specific spot on the retina and makes an inverted picture of that object. The sensation then carries to brain by optic nerve and we see that specific object.
When light can't refracted correctly or cornea is not in perfect shape so they don’t form a perfect image results to blurry or indistinct or distorted picture. That's why we are now start suffering from vision problem and start thinking for LASIK.

Why Lasik Knowhow?
Most of the people today want to get rid of glasses or contact lenses but steps backward when think of surgery procedures on their eyes. This blog is for themselves - to overcome fear by knowing everything about Lasik and to get helpful links for future uses.
